Start Your Bacon!

And No… It’s Not Food.

On
e of the most interesting secrets at the State of Texas Fair is the Pig Race. For years my brother and his friends have made it to the arena in time to put their persoinal bets on such pigs as Sylvester Staloin, and this year I am hoping to make it over for the entertainment. The Pig Races are offered three times each evening at 6:00, 6:45, and 7:45 p.m.

These piglets hoof it around a track at the Pan American Arena where audiences witness “pigs fly” in competition for the scrumptious prize at the finish line, a chocolate sandwich cookie. You're sure to have a good time "hamming it up" at this rare sighting!

Good Food for Less Cheddar

Go eat at Primizie, an authentic Italian Osteria in the heart of the East side, October 18 through the 21st.

Primizie is reminiscent of Old Italian traditions with delicious, hearty new flavors. They offer seasonal dishes with the freshest ingredients alongside perfect wine pairings. The FLAVORS menu includes different choices for a three-course dinner for $40 per person with wine pairings for an additional $20 per person. The FLAVORS menu highlights chef Mark Spedale’s recent Sicilian education while visiting the island his family hails from.
